National curriculum in England: English programmes of study

At Fairburn View Primary School, we are committed to ensuring that every child becomes a confident, capable and purposeful writer. Writing is an essential form of communication and a key part of learning across the curriculum. We aim to equip pupils with the knowledge, skills and confidence to communicate effectively for a range of purposes and audiences.

Through a structured and progressive approach, we support children to develop their ideas, vocabulary, sentence construction, grammar, punctuation, spelling and handwriting. High-quality texts sit at the heart of our writing curriculum, inspiring pupils, broadening their experiences and providing models of effective language and composition.

We aim for all pupils to become independent writers who can plan, draft, revise, edit and present their work with increasing accuracy and control. We provide appropriate support and challenge so that all children, including pupils with SEND and those who find writing difficult, can make progress and experience success.
